"This tape is comprised of six field recordings I made in 2018 while I was working in an office as a video editor making branded content for social media. I got in the habit of hitting record on my phone whenever another nearby editor would, for whatever reason, begin editing loudly on speakers instead of privately through headphones. I was struck by how absurd it felt to listen to someone else do what I was already doing on headphones myself. I chose the in and out points of each section so as to hide specific brand names and editor’s voices; the clips are otherwise unedited." - Ned Paige

Ad tape consists primarily of monologues oversaturated with affect. Voices of Authentic narrators, and uplifting orators guide the listener gently into spectacle. We hear the refrain "I was going to ask you who you are, but I know" and it describes the sensation of simultaneous masking and depersonalization that we experience after exposure to the fetish monologues and mind numbing repetition of the editing room.
